How AI can help you
AI can be a useful tool to help you:
- Understand what a role is looking for
- Identify skills and experiences that match the role
- Think about examples from work, education, volunteering, caring responsibilities or other life experiences
- Organise your thoughts and express them more clearly
- Learn more about the role and Severn Trent
- Prepare for interviews and practise potential questions
AI should help you tell your story, not create a different one.
A few things to avoid
- Make up or exaggerate your experience
- Complete assessments designed to test your own knowledge or judgement
- Create answers that don’t genuinely reflect your experiences or views
- Present AI-generated work as entirely your own
Think of AI like asking a friend to help with your application. A good friend might help you spot your strengths, organise your thoughts or explain something more clearly. They wouldn’t pretend to be you or make things up on your behalf.
Keeping the human touch in recruitment
AI is becoming a bigger part of everyday life and the way we work. Across Severn Trent, technology helps us work more effectively, look after the environment and serve our communities.
But we also believe AI has its place, and so do people.
Technology may support parts of our recruitment process, but the decisions that matter are made by people. We want to understand who you are, what you’ve done and the potential you could bring to Severn Trent.
That’s why there’s no need to create the “perfect” application. Be honest, be authentic and be you.
