Health and safety advisor

What does your current role involve?

I currently work in the Health and Safety team providing support and guidance to our Customer Relations and Business Services departments. It's great to be involved in a team that helps to ensure employee safety and wellbeing, at the same time as striving to achieve the company target of zero incidents.

How did you start out at Severn Trent? What’s your career path been?

I started with Severn Trent as an undergraduate from Nottingham Trent University, gaining experience over a two year period in Customer Relations, Purchasing, General Counsel, and Human Resources. This two year placement provided me with great opportunities to understand Severn Trent and how it functions.

How has working at Severn Trent met or challenged your expectations?

When I started working as an undergraduate at the age of 19, I had no real expectations of how a FTSE 100 company operates. I now realise that, although there are different challenges every day, there's always somebody here you can ask for support or help, and there are a wide variety of training opportunities available to help develop yourself.

What’s been the biggest surprise about the company?

The amount of diverse opportunities that are available to everyone. Severn Trent is a large company and there are always chances to get involved in new projects.

What do you like best about working here?

The best thing about working for Severn Trent Water is the people; everyone is very approachable and friendly, and there are a lot of social events and clubs to get involved with (it’s not all work).

What are you most looking forward to in the short, medium, or long term?

I have just passed my NEBOSH certificate, so I'm looking forward to putting this knowledge into practise and seeing what the future holds.
