“When I look back over the past year, I can’t believe how far I’ve come.” Adam, Former Utilities Engineering Technician
I always wanted to join an Apprentice Programme where I would have the strength of a big company behind me to help me learn from the ground up – and Severn Trent has more than delivered that. After completing my apprenticeship I was offered a place on the Business Leadership Graduate Programme as a Project Analyst, and now I’m managing my own team. It’s great for my professional development and it’s really accelerated my learning. When I look back over the past year, I can’t believe how far I’ve come. Moving from being a new starter to a future leader shows that there are no boundaries to how far you can develop your career here as an Apprentice.
As team leader I monitor team performance, look for ways to improve processes and prioritise what we need to focus on. When we move into the competitive market we need to get it right and keep our eye on the ball. It’s a challenge but I’m trying to use my experience to be the best leader I can be. You have to approach everything with the attitude of continuous improvement, always questioning what works and what doesn’t.
Apprentices add key frontline talent to our business and have a brilliant opportunity to learn on-the-job in a dedicated business. It’s such a unique place to work. I’d say to anyone thinking of joining, that from day one you need to give it your all. If you work hard and consistently perform at your best you’ll see great opportunities come your way.
