Quantity Surveyor Degree Apprentice Level 6
The Commercial Team at Severn Trent includes around 50 Quanity Surveyors and Cost Specialists. All are RICS qualified Quantity Surveyors. The team support the delivery of our ‘capital programme’. That means we support all stages of projects which incur capital expenditure. This includes the procurement, contract award, contract management, work allocation and managing supplier performance too, as well managing pricing, cost and efficiency.
Apprenticeship Programme: Chartered Surveyor
Apprenticeship Level: 6 - Degree Apprenticeship
Equivalent to: Full Bachelors degree
Programme Duration: 4 years
As a key member of our Commercial Team, our apprenticeship programme provides a unique development opportunity to work on the Capital Delivery framework, delivering clean water and waste water projects across the Severn Trent network.
What you'll be doing
The primary objective of the framework is to design and build new infrastructure, repair, maintain or improve existing assets in accordance with Severn Trent’s business outcomes set out by the regulator OFWAT. You’ll be working closely alongside Project and Commercial Managers to deliver projects efficiently and commercially administer the projects for the full project lifecycle in the most robust manner.
As part of this role, you’ll be expected to show courage and always look to do the right thing. We know speaking up when things are wrong can be difficult, but at Severn Trent we encourage our apprentices to step out their comfort zone.

During your apprenticeship you’ll develop knowledge in the following areas:
- Commercial and financial reporting
- Working with surveyors to ensure that contracts are placed in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
- Administer the contract, supporting the Project Manager in assessing and issuing contractual notifications
- Supporting the completion of monthly cost and value reports using the appropriate Severn Trent software
- Assist with preparation, maintenance and agreement of final accounts
- Assist with control of project documentation
- Support the team by carrying out variety of tasks to aid with learning development
The starting salary for this programme is £16,807.
How we'll support you
Training and Development
Your apprenticeship will allow you to develop the skills and experience that you’ll require to become an expert Quantity Surveyor within our Capital Commercial teams. During this time, you’ll combine on-the-job learning with formal, nationally recognised development training to gain your level 6 degree apprenticeship.
To help you drive and own your career progression, we’ll provide you with Personal Development Plan. This will be set and agreed with your line manager and reviewed regularly in performance reviews.
This apprenticeship follows the apprenticeship standards set out by the Institute of Apprenticeships.
