In addition to our programme working with the nine partner charities, Severn Trent Water staff support hundreds of local community projects. In 2006 Severn Trent Water's efforts to help community projects were recognised when it came first in the 'Business Working in the Community' category at the Variety Club Midlands Business Awards.

We believe volunteering benefits our own business, as well as the community, by providing opportunities for team-building and team-working across the organisation.

In 2006/2007 Severn Trent Water donated over 5,200 hours of staff time to community projects, compared to almost 5,000 the previous year. Over 520 staff took part in volunteering activities in company time in 2006/07, and the value of staff time (including Education Centre staff) donated was almost £197,000.
